I was raised in Greenville NC and my husband and I continued to make it our home as we raised our 2 children Logan and Hannah. With our Nest empty we started looking for a place to settle in Washington and made it our home about 6 years ago.
Beaufort County is my husband’s home but it also holds a special place in our hearts from our early years. We met for the first time in Bath, where I spent my summers with my grandparents. We had always dreamed of waking up to see the Pamlico every morning and it’s beautiful sunsets every night and we are now living that dream!
My career has been as a dental hygienist but my passion has always been my Art. In my spare moments between my family and my job I have always found refuge in creating. Although I do not have any formal art training, I am drawn to texture and color and have tried all different mediums.
My love for Dot Art started about 5 years ago and continues to stir a calmness in my soul when I paint. I love to share my works and have people actually touch them as I explain how they are created. My Dot Art is a tactile art as well as a visual art.
About 2 years ago I became interested in fluid art. I seem to be drawn to alcohol ink and the way the inks move and create beautiful shapes. Learning to control the inks is a big challenge! For me it has been a beautiful lesson in allowing myself grace and accepting that many times trying to always be in control limits the beauty of the outcome. Sometimes I control and sometimes they control but in the end beauty emerges! My favorite place to create is in my quiet studio at my home that overlooks the beauty of the Pamlico River. My hope is that my Art brings a peace and calmness for others as it does for me. I pray that when people experience my art both tactilely and visually that they feel the love that I put into each piece I create. My work can be found on display at River Walk Gallery in downtown Washington NC, on my Facebook page RiverDot Art and Ink by Gray Woolard and Instagram @riverdotart.
