Membership There are two ways to show artwork at the River Walk Gallery and Arts Center: Working Artists and Non-Working Artists. Both are juried. This means that all artists must submit examples of their work to the Working Artists for a vote. To start the jury process, you should: - All members must be at least 21 years old. - All potential artists are required to submit an artist biography or curriculum vitae, a completed Membership Application Form, and 5 pieces of artwork in each type of medium the Artist wishes to present in the Gallery. More pieces may be requested during the jury process. - Five items of each medium being judged are required. - A personal recommendation from a current Working Artist if available.
There are three ways to join the gallery:
1) Working Member - A full working member has a nine( 9) foot display area from floor to ceiling. The cost is $75 per month. To join you must pay for the first and last month of your membership, which is $150. The full working member works two days per month. The gallery retains 15% of the sale of the member's art. $100 set up fee, total to join $250.
2) Non-Working Artist - The Non-Working Artist is allowed to display approximately four works of art in the gallery. The cost is an annual fee of $100. The gallery retains 40% of the sale of the artist's work.
3) Book Authors - Books written by local artists and/or in local settings are welcome. Book Authors can have books in the gallery and the gallery retains 40% of the sale.
WORKING ARTISTS
River Walk Gallery is a cooperative venture for marketing the work of local artists in an environment of mutual support and encouragement. Artists supporting artists.
Duties and Responsibilities of Working Artist include, but are not limited to:
- Fee of $100 plus first and last month dues collected with signed contract. - Pay monthly dues in support of the Gallery (currently $75 per month). - Pay sales commission in support of the Gallery (currently 15% per sale). - Staff the gallery 1-2 days per month. - Rotate art 4 times per year where artists change and refresh their display and bring in new work. - Actively participate in RWG activities which includes promotion of and administration of Gallery functions. - Actively participate in the care and maintenance of the Gallery. - Attend membership meetings 6 times per year. - Interpret the Gallery's work and mission to the community and act as spokesperson. - Actively participate in one or more committees (Marketing Facilities Display Events ). - Participate in and take responsibility for making decisions on issues and other matters. - Understand the Bylaws and Policies and Procedures. - Produce art of their own design and execution.
CONSIGNMENT ARTISTS
There are no work requirements or monthly dues for consignment artists. Annual dues are $100 per year due by January 31st. If you join after December 31st, dues will be pro-rated by quarter. Consignment artists may only display four pieces of original art at a time. They are encouraged to swap out their artwork each month to keep the gallery fresh for patrons. The Gallery takes a commission on sales of 40% (60/40 split).
Application Process Instructions: Please complete the application in the link below and hand deliver or mail it to the River Walk Gallery and Arts Center, in care of the Jury Committee, 139 West Main Street, Washington, NC 27889.
Four to five pieces of your artwork are required to be seen by the Jury Committee before they can make a decision. Please deliver four or five examples of your artwork to the River Walk Gallery and Arts Center when you turn in your application.
